More than  40 of ’s business elite gathered on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Orient Club-Damascus to hear Dr. Tom Musial present a plan to launch SYCAB’s first major project, the Syria Canada Centre for Language and Culture.  Dr. Musial is the Founder, President, and CEO of the English Canada World Organization.
Dr. Musial congratulated the charter members of SYCAB for their vision, talent, dedication to public service, and commitment of financial resources to building an educational partnership between government and private enterprise.  SYCAB’s initial project will offer training, create educational opportunities, and foster commercial development between and .  Dr. Musial added words of praise for the work of the Canadian Embassy for its support in the formation of both SYCAB and the Centre for Language and Culture.
In his presentation, Dr. Musial pointed out that English is truly the world's second language in business, technology, education, diplomacy, advertising, and even sports.  He explained that one out of every four people in the world speaks English at some level, that learning English is a key to success in the global market, and that the demand for English instruction is increasing daily.  He pointed out that in many countries English is even used as the language of the workplace.
English Canada helps educational institutions and organizations such as SYCAB to meet their language training needs by supplying its associates with instructional programs, trained native English-speaking teachers, and operational management systems.  SYCAB plans to use English Canada’s program as the cornerstone of its new Centres for Language and Culture.  The initial Centre will open in Damascus in October 2007.  Other Centres are planned for Aleppo and other major cities in shortly thereafter.
Dr. Musial’s luncheon presentation outlined the operations and costs of the English Canada program.  Initially it will offer General English courses to the public and special-purpose training to corporations.  In time, the Centre’s programs will expand to include business courses and vocational training programs.
